Matthew A. Lovitt, MD, FACS earned his MD in 1986 from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completed his residency in General Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas. He received his board certification from the American Board of Surgery in 1993 and commissioned as Major in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps where he served as Chief of Surgical Services at Sheppard AFB and Chief of General Surgery at England AFB. He received both the Meritorious Service Award and the Commendation Award for Meritorious Service. He was appointed to the Operating Room Utilization Task Force, serving at the direction of the Surgeon General of the Air Force in helping to remake and improve the delivery of surgical services in the United States Air Force. Dr. Lovitt has been practicing at Baylor University Medical Center in General Surgery, Acute General Surgery, Trauma Surgery and Surgical Critical Care since 1996. He was one of the founders of Urgent Surgery Associates, PA, in 1998 and instrumental in the formation and buildup of the surgical critical care group, North Texas Critical Care, PA, in 2014.
Dr. Lovitt is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Southwestern Surgical Society, American Society of General Surgeons. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at TC and UNTHSC SOM, as well as clinical adjunct assistant professor with Texas A&M Health Sciences Center, and is involved in the training of surgical residents, surgical critical care fellows, medical students and advanced practice providers (APPs).
